Early detection results from the fact that ultrasound examinations of the abdomen are carried out for many reasons.

Kidney tumors usually grow slowly. Two papers from 2008 and a new publication from 2020 show that the increase in diameter of a kidney tumor is 0.56 cm per year to around 1 cm per year. The doubling of the tumor volume per year was determined to be 19.1 (cm³). However, the increase in tumor volume was faster if the kidney cancer had a diameter of more than four centimeters at the time of the first measurement.

Both publications suggest an early diagnosis . An ultrasound examination of the kidneys is therefore indicated for good reason; it is not stressful and is also completely painless.

As a rule, complete healing can then be achieved by removing the tumor.
