Heidelberg Curriculum Medicinale

Heicumed

Nephrology module

The Heidelberg Renal Center is responsible for the nephrology module in the internal medicine block of the Heidelberg Heicumed medical degree course.

The learning objectives of the one-week block include the basics of nephrological diagnostics, acid-base balance disorders, acute kidney failure, diabetic nephropathy, cystic kidney disease, arterial hypertension and the pathological basics of nephrological diseases.

As part of Heicumed, the renal center also holds 4 lectures of the symptom-oriented basic lecture and participates in problem-oriented learning (POL) in small groups.

Doctoral and diploma students

In addition to doctoral theses for medical students, biologists also have the opportunity to carry out internships, diploma and doctoral theses.

Please contact Dr. Handermann for information on current PhD topics offered in nephrology.
Biologists please contact Dr. Krautkrämer.

Practical year

In addition to gaining an insight into the nephrological diagnosis and treatment of our inpatients, we also offer PJ students the opportunity to actively participate in our nephrology outpatient clinic and transplant outpatient clinic, in our day-care dialysis unit and in the consultation service in the Medical Clinic and acute dialysis units.

clinical traineeships

We welcome clinical trainees at any time and they can take advantage of the same training opportunities as PJ students. Please send applications to Prof. Zeier's office.

Experimental work

The Nephrology Section offers the following events as part of its support for scientific research in medicine

In this three-day practical course, participants are given an insight into basic research. Basic laboratory techniques such as cell culture and immunofluorescence are carried out in small groups under supervision.

In addition to learning the techniques and handling laboratory equipment, the main focus is on teaching important basics of experimental work. The sequence of an experiment, including time planning, reagent preparation, experiment set-up with controls, documentation of execution and results, interpretation and troubleshooting, will be experienced in this practical course and give participants an impression of everyday laboratory work.

Number of participants: 6 - 10

Dates (full day): by arrangement

Groups of at least 6 to a maximum of 10 participants can also register as a group for a date by arrangement.

Location: Nephrology, INF 162

Registration: ellen.krautkraemer@med.uni-heidelberg.de

The project work enables medical students to complete a four-week individual internship in the nephrology research laboratory.

In an individual project work, the practical implementation of the individual steps of a research project (question, literature research, planning, experimental implementation, error analysis, evaluation, documentation, classification of the results) can be learned.

In a clearly outlined project, basic cell biology methods are applied independently after familiarization and scientific writing is practiced through participation in the journal club and the preparation of a protocol of one's own work.
