A silent killer

High blood pressure is a widespread disease; in Germany, around a third of all those affected are more or less undergoing treatment, although the number of unreported cases is worryingly high.

A silent killer

The Heart Foundation provides information. The aim of the Heart Foundation and its Heart Weeks is to provide comprehensive information about high blood pressure and to encourage as many people as possible to have their blood pressure measured and to find out about the treatment, causes and prevention of high blood pressure.

The insidious thing about the "silent killer" is that high blood pressure can progress without symptoms despite high blood pressure values and therefore remain untreated or even undetected for years. Everyone should therefore know their blood pressure and measure it regularly from the age of 40 or have it measured by a doctor.

Senior physician Dr. Jörg Beimler explains how to measure blood pressure correctly in our "Patient Forum Online". If you have a family history of high blood pressure, it makes sense to have your blood pressure checked routinely even earlier. "Millions of men and women don't know their blood pressure at all because they don't have it measured. The consequences are fatal, as high blood pressure is considered a major cause of premature death and is one of the most important risk factors for cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmia or other diseases such as kidney failure.

As part of World Hypertension Day in May 2021, we have highlighted the dangers of high blood pressure under the motto "DON'T FORGET TO MEASURE BLOOD PRESSURE". Medically correct blood pressure measurements are taken in our outpatient clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 13:00 to 13:30.
