Deadly hantavirus

ZDF Drehscheibe reports on the dangers of infection with the hantavirus.

Using the example of riding instructor Dorothee Heiss, the ZDF program Drehscheibe illustrates the process of infection with the hantavirus by inhaling dried red-backed vole droppings in inconspicuous conventional dust. The equestrian athlete spends a lot of time in riding stables due to her job, but at first nobody suspected that dust from the stables would be the cause of her fever, chills, nausea and severe pain all over her body.

When Ms. Hess is admitted to the renal center with acute kidney failure, the doctors diagnose her with "hantavirus infection".
